Why can't I hear my alarm clock in the morning?

It is very loud and I still can't hear the alarm. Why?

Say you get up at 7 every morning, at 6:30 or so your mind has already started to wake up so alarms and other noises that we might normally sleep through if you're a deep sleeper can wake you up. But if you aren't getting enough sleep or you are sleeping irregular hours, such as going to sleep at 7pm one night 2am the next night, etc. then your mind might still be in the deepest stage of sleep when your alarm is going off and unaffected by that noise even if it's loud.

(1) Maybe you're not getting enough sleep
(2) Irregular hours
(3) Its time to change the ring tone you wake up to because your brain has learned to tune that one out

Either you are snoring too loudly to hear the alarm, or you suffer from selective hearing, or subconsciously you don't want to get out of bed! Try standing the alarm clock on top of an empty metal biscuit tin! This will make the alarm sound even louder! Also place the tin and alarm clock far enough away from your bed so that you have to get out of bed to shut the alarm off - or wake the neighbours!

Maybe because the sound of your alarm is not annoying enough. Try this: http://onlineclock.net/

Some people can sleep through anything. And, if you have used the same alarm clock for a long time you could get used to it. Your mind knows that it is going to go off at a certain time and can ignore it. Try to get a different alarm clock with an alarm that you can set to different tones. Then, put it out of reach so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. A more drastic option is to get a timer that you can plug into a wall outlet. Then, plug a bright lamp and a very loud radio into it to be turned on when you want to get up. http://www.lowes.com/pd_155671-95363-TE06WHBL_4294933408+5003718+4294965690_40_?productId=3125319&Ns=p_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl_Utilitech_4294933408%2B5003718%2B4294965690_40_%3FNs%3Dp_product_prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1&facetInfo=2%20-%203|Utilitech
